Engineering the Next Generation of Upstream Solutions.
BluFin Energy Services brings two proprietary technologies to market — NovIDAS and MR4000 — purpose-built to solve the most persistent challenges in drilling, intervention, and field rejuvenation.
NovIDAS
Novel Intervention Drilling & Abandonment System
NovIDAS is BluFin's flagship hydraulic drilling system, engineered for precision well intervention and new-well drilling in environments where conventional rigs are impractical, cost-prohibitive, or operationally constrained.
How It Works
NovIDAS uses a modular hydraulic power unit to drive a compact, surface-deployable drilling assembly. The system eliminates the need for a conventional derrick, reducing surface footprint by up to 70% while maintaining full directional drilling capability. Its plug-and-play architecture allows rapid rig-up in under 24 hours, making it ideal for remote, urban, or environmentally sensitive locations.
Key Advantages
Minimal Surface Footprint
Operates in locations inaccessible to conventional rigs — urban environments, offshore platforms, jungle clearings, and constrained pad sites.
Rapid Mobilization
Full rig-up in under 24 hours. Reduced crew requirements and simplified logistics translate directly to lower day-rate costs.
Full Directional Capability
Supports rotary steerable systems and MWD/LWD tooling, delivering the same directional precision as a full-size rig at a fraction of the cost.
Multi-Purpose Deployment
Handles new-well drilling, re-entry, sidetrack, plug & abandonment, and workover operations from a single platform.
Ideal Use Cases
- Mature field re-entry and sidetrack drilling
- Plug & abandonment campaigns on aging wells
- New-well drilling in constrained or remote locations
- Offshore platform slot recovery
- Environmentally sensitive or urban well sites
MR4000
Mobile Rig 4000 — Chassis-Mounted Workover System
The MR4000 is a self-contained, chassis-mounted workover and completion rig designed for maximum operational flexibility. Built on a heavy-duty truck chassis, it combines the power of a conventional workover unit with the mobility of a field-deployable vehicle.
How It Works
The MR4000 integrates a full workover mast, hydraulic drawworks, and a dedicated power generation unit onto a single truck chassis. This self-contained design eliminates the need for separate crane support or auxiliary equipment during standard operations. The system can be road-transported between well sites without disassembly, enabling multi-well campaigns with minimal inter-well downtime.
Ideal Use Cases
- Multi-well workover campaigns across a field
- Well completion and perforation operations
- Pump installation and rod string replacement
- Tubing and casing repair programs
- Production restoration on idle or underperforming wells
Key Advantages
Road-Mobile Between Wells
Moves between well sites under its own power with no disassembly required — dramatically reducing inter-well rig move time and cost.
Self-Contained Operations
Integrated power generation and hydraulic systems mean no dependency on external equipment. One unit, one crew, full capability.
High Load Capacity
Engineered for demanding workover and completion operations, with sufficient hook load for deep well interventions and heavy tubular handling.
Rapid Well-to-Well Deployment
Designed for multi-well campaigns where speed of mobilization between locations directly impacts project economics.
Built to Keep Evolving.
BluFin's engineering team continuously refines NovIDAS and MR4000 based on field performance data and operator feedback. Our R&D focus is on reducing operational complexity, extending the operational envelope of both systems, and developing the next generation of modular intervention tools for an industry that demands more from less.
Field-Driven Iteration
Every deployment generates performance data that feeds directly into our engineering cycle. Improvements are validated in the field, not just in the lab.
Modular Architecture
Both NovIDAS and MR4000 are designed for component-level upgrades. New tooling, sensors, and power systems can be integrated without full platform replacement.
Expanding the Envelope
Current R&D targets deeper well capability, enhanced directional control, and integration with real-time downhole monitoring for both platforms.
